  24. Simple answer: Yes. You'll need at least 2.5 MB and g++ from FSF. Price
  25. is nice: nothing. I own V1.35.1, which is slightly unstable, but V1.35.1
  26. should be available anywhere. If you have FTP access, you'll have no
  27. problem to fetch it. If so, I'll try to find an address for you.

  65. I think everyone is missing the major problem with the poolfix4. The choice
  66. of "poolfix4" implies that it is the next version of "poolfix3" and since
  67. poolfix3 came from Atari, people will assume poolfix4 also came from Atari.
  68. I'm sure that some people would be confused by this and go to Alan Pratt for
  69. support/questions/whatever... I don't think it matters how pompous and
  70. obnoxious the original post was.  If the original name was "POOLPTCH" or
  71. something like that, I bet nobody would have complained at all (unless of
  72. course it didn't work).

  82. If you can't access Terminator, Tim Oren's GEM articles are available from
  83. the Lancaster PD server.

  85. This is a UNIX machine at Lancaster University, UK and its JANET numerical
  86. address is 000010403000 (UK.AC.LANCS.PD, I think). Although it's a UNIX
  87. machine, it runs a hybrid shell that will accept most popular commands.
  88. The ST stuff is kept in micros/atari, with a full index in micros/atari/index
  89.  
  90. You can pull stuff across to your own site via FTP.

  116. Well, I don't know much about hardware, but I can tell you about this
  117. point. It is possible, and not a bad idea, to put a second drive into
  118. the megafile 30 and on the hostadaptor of it. (Hope you get my
  119. english...)

  121. Well, there are lots of people in the atari.ger.fido (Fido Nets Atari
  122. Board in germany) who discussed this problem some time ago. I myself
  123. want to put a new, second drive in my megafile, as soon as i got the
  124. money. I think about 60 MB, 3,5" and RLL.
  125. Well, the hardware in the megafile is in some way ready to accept a
  126. second unit ! I can't tell you exactly, but there shurley many people
  127. out who know...

  129. The software is the other prob - AHDI is, as far s I know, not prepared
  130. for a second unit. And it has some bugs besides that point ...
  131. I use CBHD SYS. This is a very nice hard disk driver. It is based on the
  132. AHDI and rerwritten and very improved by a german called CLAUS BROD.
  133. He wrote aa nice and good book about floppies, harddisks etc on the st
  134. and inculded a disk within the book. This driver allows you without any
  135. problems to access a second unit in the megafile 30 or to boot from the
  136. partition you want (up to 12 are possible i think)...

  138. Well, overall its a great thing. Claus Brod is unfortunately no more
  139. contactable via usenet, but maybe I could help you a bit...

  159. As far as I know, you need Signum Version 2.01 to run it with Gemini and
  160. activated AMCGDOS. But I haven't checked it out myself yet...
  161. Otherwise you only can press "shift" while loading amc...

  184. Regular readers of comp.sys.atari.st may recall that ST World (UK) and
  185. Europress (ST User) recently merged to form Interactive Publishing, and I
  186. suggested that it wouldn't be long before things changed...

  188. Today I received a letter from Interactive publishing, together with the
  189. Programmer's Clinic that I submitted at the end of last month. The letter
  190. says that:

  192.         "Both ST World and Atari ST User are now produced by the same
  193. editorial team.. ..the magazines are to be relaunched with a brand new
  194. look.

  196.         "One of the changes being made... ...is the transfer of your
  197. Programmer's Clinic feature from the pages of ST World onto the Cover Disk
  198. of Atari ST User. The Cover Disk will contain its own magazine..."

  200. I'm not very happy with the way they've cut and changed the last clinic to
  201. fit on the cover disk. I can understand the desire for a smaller clinic, but
  202. it's just the way they've changed the article, and the fact that they didn't
  203. consult me.

  205. ST World will now be quarterly, and "more of a buyers guide". I don't know
  206. what will happen to subscribers to ST World, given that they've now got a
  207. subscription to a totally different magazine.
